Top Ten Anticipated Books of 2014

Don't Look Back- Jennifer L. Armentrout
Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

City of Heavenly Fire- Cassandra Clare

I am coming.

Darkness returns to the Shadowhunter world. As their society falls apart around them, Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends must band together to fight the greatest evil the Nephilim have ever faced: Clary’s own brother. Nothing in the world can defeat him — must they journey to another world to find the chance? Lives will be lost, love sacrificed, and the whole world changed in the sixth and last installment of the Mortal Instruments series!

Night Broken- Patricia Briggs

An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Up From the Grave- Jeaniene Frost

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives—and those of everyone they hold dear— will be hovering on the edge of the grave.

Wild Things- Chloe Neill

Since Merit was turned into a vampire, and the protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House, it’s been a wild ride. She and Master vampire Ethan Sullivan have helped make Cadogan’s vampires the strongest in North America, and forged ties with paranormal folk of all breeds and creeds, living or dead…or both.

But now those alliances are about to be tested. A strange and twisted magic has ripped through the North American Central Pack, and Merit’s closest friends are caught in the crosshairs. Gabriel Keene, the Pack Apex, looks to Merit and Ethan for help. But who—or what—could possibly be powerful enough to out-magic a shifter?

Merit is about to go toe to toe, and cold steel to cold heart, to find out.

The Book of Life- Deborah Harkness

The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3)After traveling through time in Shadow of Night, the second book in Deborah Harkness’s enchanting series, historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire scientist Matthew Clairmont return to the present to face new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home at Sept-Tours, they reunite with the cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches—with one significant exception. But the real threat to their future has yet to be revealed, and when it is, the search for Ashmole 782 and its missing pages takes on even more urgency. In the trilogy’s final volume, Harkness deepens her themes of power and passion, family and caring, past deeds and their present consequences. In ancestral homes and university laboratories, using ancient knowledge and modern science, from the hills of the Auvergne to the palaces of Venice and beyond, the couple at last learn what the witches discovered so many centuries ago.

With more than one million copies sold in the United States and appearing in thirty-eight foreign editions and translations, A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night have landed on all of the major bestseller lists and garnered rave reviews from countless publications. Eagerly awaited by Harkness’s legion of fans, The Book of Life brings this superbly written series to a deeply satisfying close.

Panic- Lauren Oliver

Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

Maybe Someday- Colleen Hoover

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance—and the enchanting music that inspires one young woman to put her life back together.

At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

From the author of the New York Times bestsellers Slammed, Point of Retreat, Hopeless, This Girl, and Losing Hope, Maybe Someday is destined to become another bestseller and long-lasting fan favorite.

The Blood of Olympus- Rick Riordan

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the "Argo II" have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen-all of them, and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood-the blood of Olympus-in order to wake.

The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps.

The Athena Parthenos will go west; the "Argo II" will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

The Curse of Betrayal- Taylor Lavati

The Curse of Betrayal (Curse Books, #2)
Ryder has finally decided to take her life into her own hands, but things don’t always turn out as they seem. Ollie and Ari have made a pact that leaves Ryder alone until she ends the curse and chooses her soul mate.

With her knights absent, Ryder becomes independent, seeing things in her visions that force her to question the curse—and herself.

As strange things happen at Demi God Academy, Ryder realizes everything comes back to her. She must use the power growing within her to protect her new friends in ways she never imagined possible. But as new threats surface, she may not be strong enough to protect them all.

In book two of A Curse Books, Ryder discovers what it really means to be Eurydice.

What's Worth Breaking the Bank?

As an independent author, it's tough to pay for everything and still make money. You never want to feel like your job isn't worth it. Writing for most of us, maybe just me, is enjoyable and I love doing it but it's hard to figure out what's worth paying for and what we can skip out on.

Survey Results Revealed and Analyzed

About a week ago I decided to make a survey. I've had a lot of marketing questions lately and I always get mixed responses from various people. Authors will tell you to market and giveaway as much as possible. But my question was, do READERS actually enter giveaways? This is huge for me since I'm a college student, I'm broke. If I'm investing in book and swag then I want there to be pay off. Or to at least give the readers something they want.

I've been talking with some friends and people who have helped me before when my first novel came out in August about what to giveaway and what readers want price wise and how to go about all this fun stuff.

So I ordered some bookmarks...

That Outline I Mentioned MONTHS Ago

Those who don't follow my blog, don't worry. Check out the original post here :) Don't worry though, I'll explain again. A few months ago, I had this book idea. I really wanted to start writing so I just did. I wrote a lot at work so I did it a little unconventionally and then decided it was freaking awesome.

Instead of sitting and writing word after word and dealing with chapters and all that fluff later, I wrote chapter by chapter in order. I didn't elaborate or add much. I just wrote the chapters that impacted the story the most and the big things that needed to happen. I did a lot of dialogue so I learned characters and what they were like. I just wrote what needed to happen to move the story forward.

I can't wait... Let's see how this works. This takes place a week before The Curse of Betrayal begins. So if you haven't read The Thousand Year Curse, don't read this. There might be some spoilers. So keep in mind, this is like a check up before the book begins.

Nanowrimo Nov 2013 | I'm a quitter by day 11

Hey all. Well... Nano didn't quite work out for me this year. I have a lot going on so that may be why but I'm not motivated. Next Monday my manuscript goes to my fabulous editor, Danielle so I want to get that cleaned up as much as possible before then.

On Nov 22nd, I have The Curse of Betrayal's cover reveal and with school, I'm just pooped. I'm done with nano for the year. Over it! But I still want to hear all of your progress. I love nano and it's has been good to me before but this year, not so much. Maybe in a week or two I'll come back but to be honest, I can make nano any time of the year.

I like that nano is this great organization and there's prizes and competitions and winners goodies and what not but I feel like we should be doing it not to bang out this amazing word count but more to bang out this amazing piece of writing.

I'm not bashing nano. But I kind of am...

ABC Challenge | Winners

I'm sure you've heard a bunch about this ABC Challenge that my friend Suzan St Maur hosted. It was a blast. I had so much fun judging it and today she posted the winners and my comments. So today, I'm going to post it as well! Here we go and don't forget to check out the people's posts. They were truly awesome.

How did I judge them?

First of all, they were all incredibly different. I had some on taxes, some on writing and others from speaking German to a business conference. So to keep it fair, I didn't really take into consideration how much I related or liked a topic.

The Curse of Betrayal | Teaser Three

Welcome to Teaser Friday! I've got a nice short and sweet one for you guys. But really quick, I want to shout out Jamie who won my halloween giveaway! She earned herself a paperback copy of TTYC and $10 gift card to amazon :)

Happy Halloween | Giveaway

Halloween is for sure one of my favorite holidays. It means nothing but it's just so fun. In my town there's this new tradition called 'booing' Have any of you heard of it? It's actually really cool and a fun way to lead up to the magical night of Halloween. It's for children, ps.

ABC Challenge | Explanations

So I'm sure most of you have seen my posting about some ABC Challenge going on. Well, it's officially over and myself and +Suzan St Maur are going to pick some winners. Check out the original post, HERE! Over the next couple days, I'm going to post my thoughts on each entry and how they did on the challenge. +Suzan St Maur is posting their entries to I'll link back so you can check out the full thing.

NEXT WEDNESDAY, the winner will be announced along with second and third place. Let me just say, it's a tough process because it's not flash fiction like my original one, found here. Where I could easily judge based on fluidity or cohesiveness. Nope, these are all based on people's blogs and they're all quite different.

So keep your eyes and ears open for the next week or so as I post with the heading ABC Challenge for my views on each writers entry. It's going to be a blast! And I want your feedback also. Who do you think did the best? Who's was so funny you almost peed? Your advice may help me pick a winner!

*It's Halloween so I have a special treat for you, give me an hour!*

The Curse of Betrayal | Teaser Two

First thing's first.. My friend @suzanstmaur posted a cool article about our prompt this week! Check it out here and see how she did it with her blogging. Also, check out her awesome website. There's so much content you could get lost for days reading up in there. :) How to write better is the name.

Now... onto the teaser. I'm going along with this whole Meet ____ technique and people are really into it. So today I'm going to interview Megan who becomes one of Ryder's friends at DGA. You'll get to know her but let me tell you, she's very quiet and reserved so let's see how the interview goes.

Hey all! I've been getting a lot of questions and meeting a ton of people who want to know about NaNoWriMo. So I'm going to post a little introduction to the fabulous month so we can all be on track. As the days lead up to Nano I'll post some tips I've found work for me, too!

The Curse of Betrayal | Teaser One

Oh Em Gee, here it is guys... The Curse Books Number Two is starting up. The cover is done, editing date set so now come the teasers before it's release in a couple months. I'm actually hoping for a January 2013 release should everything go smoothly (which is almost never does).

So I'm not going to give anything away from the first book YET! But be prepared in the future teasers because it's kind of impossible to avoid it. So in this one, we're going to meet Kara. You may remember her from the end of Book One but if not, she's Ryder's new roommate.

ore convincing? GO TO goodreads page for other reviews. (Although they're mostly the same ones but still, read them twice!)

Let's see...

Are you convinced to get my book yet? No? What the hell! Well, here's the prologue to drag you in...

We are brought up being told tales of love and triumph. Hell, I should know, I’m in the damn books.
I was brought up being told that there is always a happily ever after and that I deserved one.
Well, what if there isn’t?

What if bad things really do happen to good people? I consider myself a good person.
Yes, I have a special skill set where at times,
I’ll admit too taking advantage of them.
But still, I’m good.

I never hurt someone until the day she came into my life, those thousands and thousands of years ago.
Her death was my fault. It’s always my fault. This curse is my fault.
He doesn’t waste one day rubbing that in my face.

I can’t help that I love her.
He can’t help that he loves her, too.
I wish I could die to end this constant torment. How easy would that be?
I’ve even asked Hades himself for a swift end.
But no.
Of course not.
That would be too damn easy.

I don’t deserve this.
Yet here I am, walking back into his trap. I can’t stay away from her.
Her very essence calls to me no matter how many miles I shove between us.

The problem?

Neither can he.

There. You better be convinced and if you're not, well... you stink!

Ps. happy columbus day. I hope you're all laying in bed late and reading.

Meet Sam | Picture Contest Winner

Hey all, so the resounding winner of my picture contest was OPTION Two which looks like this...

Special shout out to Karen L who gave me the best answer, "The first one looks all dark but very cool but the second one gives me a bubbly feeling and makes me happy when I look at it. I love the script writing on top but the serious name. Pick two!"

Karen- you win the paperback copy! :):):):):)

Anyways, now onto the fun stuff. Last week we met Nathalie from A Reliant Love. So today, get ready to meet Sam!

Samuel Torrington was a jock in high school. He was only 14 when he lost his virginity to his first love, Sarah. She was perfect and they were the IT couple all though high school. But Sarah and Sam got into drugs. They dove head first into the party scene and hung out with all the older kids who were into the hard stuff. Sam got into cocaine and started slipping up on his grades, skipping practice and pushing away friends.

Something happened and Sam ended up in juvie. So he vows to never do cocaine again, and to get the hell away from his past. Sarah and him break up, Sarah's twin, Pete his best friend refuses to talk to him. He drops off the team and lives in a depressed lull.

His parents told him he can either go to college or get the hell out of their lives so he choses college. He visits Sarah before he goes and they make up, creating a good friendship. But Pete refuses to talk to him and that gets worse when the two go to the same college.

The book begins in Sam's last year at UMA. He's a senior and his plan has been working flawlessly. After he graduates he plans to move far far away and start a new life without drugs, girls or the past creeping up on him. But then he meets Nathalie, a sweet innocent freshman and feels a need to know her.

Sam has dark brown hair and deep green eyes. He's 23 years old and his birthday is August 25th. He's six feet tall and muscular but since quitting football he's lost some weight. He prefers hanging out in small groups lately. He dreams of running away and never coming back.

What do you think of Samuel?

Picture Contest | Free Paperback

Hey guys! I recently had a friend who got in big trouble for using images in her blog that were from google. So I'm sure some of you noticed that I've updated all of my posts with stock photos I've bought or public domain pictures.

So while it's been a pain in the butt to change virtually everything on my site, it's been fun. I've made my own special picture to symbolize my writing wednesday post. I want some feedback about it so I put together a little contest.

Whoever gives me the most helpful comment about the pictures and why they like the one they picked will win a copy of The Thousand Year Curse. I like both so much that I can't pick so I really want some advice from all of you guys.

I already know you know what you're talking about since you helped me so much with the cover for my book. So get to writing and help a blogger out!

To win a free paperback copy of The Thousand Year Curse all you have to do is post which you like and why in the comments section. Remember, it's completely up to me who will win. So writing 'option one' probably isn't going to get you a copy!

P.S. I'll be picking the winner... TOMORROW! So hurry up :)

Meet Nathalie | Youtube Video | Free Day Announcement

One of my favorite weekends of the year is Columbus Day. Okay, I know what you're thinking. That it's totally random and kind of weird. I would have to agree BUT every Columbus Day I go on vacation with my family to my favorite place on earth- Vermont.

So in honor of my weird obsession with a seemingly meaningless holiday, Monday October 14th my book, The Thousand Year Curse will be FREE on amazon in the ebook format. Yes, you heard me right. FREE! Mark your calenders, phone's or whatever. This is one of the last times the book will be free so don't forget!

Of course I'll continue to keep you posted as it gets closer!

Now onto the teaser of the day...

Meet Nathalie from A Reliant Love

Nathalie is from a small town in Connecticut. Throughout high school she was an honor student, had an awesome social life and was a happy teen. Deep down though, she always wanted to have her own life where her parents didn't dictate her moves and she could have real experiences, unlike the forced ones inside her life's bubble.

She gets accepted to UMA, a college only about two hours from her hometown and leaves to experience it her own way. Instead of living in dorms, she uses her savings to get an apartment so she can really feel what it's like to be on her own. She creates a mental checklist of things she wants to do her freshman year. She feels every adult needs to do them before they are a true independent person.

She's in school to become a vet. Her dream is to open up an animal shelter. Her career choice follows her into everyday life. She always feels a need to fix situations and even people. She thinks it's the right thing to help but it often gets her in trouble. When she meets Sam, that's exactly what she wants to do- fix him.

She's not as innocent as she sounds. She was high school sweethearts with Drew. She gave him a precious gift, her virginity, and then he left her. But it didn't deter her view on love, she still wants to find her prince charming it's just now she wants to have fun and doesn't want a serious relationship right away. She likes to party but is only accustomed to small country club gatherings or drinking with her friends in the basement. Although she is very social she enjoys staying home and watching movies.

Nathalie has dirty blonde hair that falls dangerously low on her back. She has these really deep hazel eyes that are mesmerizing. She's about 5'5'' and has an athletic body. She has a major sweet tooth and loves caramel draped on everything. She looks like the girl next door but she's so much more than that. She craves creating her own life and will do anything to become a self sufficient adult while crossing off everything on her list.

Also, I made a fun video about the characters of The Thousand Year Curse. It's who I would want to play the characters if my book was turned into a movie. It's quick and I used a song from the playlist in the background.

For each character, there's also quotes from the book about what they look like so if you haven't read it, you can get an idea why I picked the actors I did. Have fun and enjoy!! Happy Friday :)

I'm almost done with the first edits with The Curse of Betrayal :)

Guess what else?
I've written another book and given it a title!
It's called......

A Reliant Love

Ready for the bad news?
They've still got a ways to go before they're ready to put out so...
for now, giveaways and teasers will have to do.
I'm so excited though!

Here is a little and by little, I mean three lines, teaser for A Reliant Love

"I'm not me, anymore. When I look in the mirror, I hardly recognize myself. This is what you do to me."
"I'm sorry. I'm not trying to hurt you."

"Thats the worst part. You break me by accident."

Monday Music #2

This Song is From the playlist of The Thousand Year Curse

PS. I'm going to be posting a song every Monday until the playlist is done.
Comment how you think it relates to the book or what the meaning is behind the song.

All this time I was wasting,
Hoping you would come around
I've been giving out chances every time
And all you do is let me down
And it's taken me this long
Baby but I figured you out
And you're thinking we'll be fine again,
But not this time around

You don't have to call anymore
I won't pick up the phone
This is the last straw
Don't wanna hurt anymore
And you can tell me that you're sorry
But I don't believe you baby
Like I did before
You're not sorry, no no oh

Looking so innocent,
I might believe you if I didn't know
Could've loved you all my life
If you hadn't left me waiting in the cold
And you got your share of secrets
And I'm tired of being last to know
And now you're asking me to listen
Cause it's worked each time before

But you don't have to call anymore
I won't pick up the phone
This is the last straw
Don't wanna hurt anymore
And you can tell me that you're sorry
But I don't believe you baby
Like I did before
You're not sorry, no no, oh

You're not sorry no no oh

You had me crying for you honey
And it never would've gone away, no
You used to shine so bright
But I watched all of it fade

So you don't have to call anymore
I won't pick up the phone
This is the last straw
There's nothing left to beg for
And you can tell me that you're sorry
But I don't believe you baby
Like I did before
You're not sorry, no no oh

Synopsis with Review by Fran Lewis

Hey guys. I honestly had to post this review by Fran Lewis. Not only did she give an honest review but she also explained things in the book. Don't worry, there's not really any spoilers in here. It just explains what the book is about and some general things that happen. Check out +fran lewis!

Here's her review...

High school tends to be a challenge at times but to one 17-year-old girl named Ryder each day is nightmare waiting to happen. With no one to protect her at times she is the subject of ridicule of a girl named Becca and her minions. At times all Ryder wants to do is run away or hide. Surviving her senior year might be her goal but that is just the tip of what some might say the iceberg when you hear the rest.

Sometimes things happen for a reason and the people we meet might change the course or direction of our lives. What would you do if you found out that you were half human and half goddess? What would you do if you learned that after living 500 years your powers will come full circle and you might start to age? The strings are being pulled but not by anyone above ground.

Author Taylor Lavati takes readers down deep within the realm of the Underground where Hades rules and Persephone reigns to learn the history behind Ryder’s ancestry, her true heritage and her future. What would you do if you learned that each time you were found by your two lovers you died? What happens and how this all ties together are presented in The Thousand-Year Curse by debut author Taylor Lavati.

Ryder has been experiencing some weird moments. At times she has visions that take her to places she has never been. Other times she enters the Underground realm and sees herself dead, her soul pulled from her body and meets Hades and Persephone thinking they are trying to help her yet not realizing that they are playing with her for sport. Cruel, unfeeling and definitely manipulating her life, her future and her relationships, Ryder will learn the harsh truth but let’s hope it’s in time to save her.

Everyone needs someone to watch their back and support them no matter what happens. Ryder’s father is really great and enjoys spending time with her but Ryder never divulges the fact that she is being bullied in school, the strange physical changes that she has encountered, the reason things break or the truth behind what she is about to learn. Added in the author shares that Ryder’s mother left her and her dad and has not been heard from since.

Things heat up within the first month of school when Ryder meets Ollie in a chance encounter and then Ari adds to the mix. Just who are these two gorgeous guys who can’t seem to get enough of Ryder? Why does her best friend Junior seem to team up with Ollie? Why is it that Ollie has this mysterious and mystical quality about him that causes people to just do what he says? Is it the music he plays or is it something else?

Getting to know both Ollie and Ari they seem like two typical teens who are vying for the attention of one young girl. But, looks are deceiving, actions are not what they appear and the truth behind why they are attending her school and who they are will definitely surprise not only Ryder but readers too. Ryder’s real name is Eurydice and although she would like to live a normal teenage life now that she met these two that’s not possible.

Would you believe it if I told you that Eurydice or Ryder lived long ago during the time of Orpheus and that Ollie/Orpheus and Ari/ Aristeus are both Greek Gods sent to find Ryder/Eurydice and bring her back. Learning some information from Ollie and more from Ari, Ryder decides it’s time to learn the rest from the man in charge down below.  Wanting to take a trip to the place where no one wants to wind up when gone, Hades, and meet the two that reign, she convinces Ari to find out how to enter the portal, pay for the trip and then needs to convince her best friend to cover for her while she is gone.

Ryder is headstrong and at times does not think things through. Wanting to be with both guys her emotions are often rattled, she becomes confused and whichever one is in front of her that’s who she wants. But, does she really ever get a hold on her emotions? Finding her way to Ollie when upset with other situations and the dreams that she has that are all too real, Ryder decides to take that one step that many girls her age wait for but often do not, and enters his bedroom and gives him her heart body and soul. Ryder seems whipped at times and does not always stand up for herself and she also gives into these two guys too easily.

The intimate scene between Ryder and Ollie was done tactfully and in good taste, as it did not go overboard in the description leaving something for the reader to wonder. The awkwardness that she displays is quite normal. The hesitation at first and his fear that he might hurt her made the scene more believable. Ryder and Junior accept too much at face value at times and the fact that Junior convinces her father to allow her to go on a skiing trip and does not ask where, when or why seems a little too easy. Most parents of teens would want to know more. But, since it is Junior, I guess he trusts him.

Off to Hades she goes and now things will heat up but before they do she reenters her room and finds herself back in the cave that seems to appear in her dreams sees Ari and the scene is chilling. Trust is one underlying theme that comes through as Ryder and Junior would not betray each other’s trust or will they in order to survive? Teens can learn that believing everything at face value and taking what others say, as gospel is not always the right thing to do. Should she have confided in her father when these strange things happened? What about her mother does he know?

Each time Ollie wants to remind Ryder of his feelings he leaves a Rose on her pillow or somewhere where she can find it with a note letting her know he is not far away. The Rose seems to symbolize his love for her, which he feels, is eternal. Ryder is a half goddess and her mother is one too. Trying to find her along with hoping to end this thousand-year curse placed on her is her goal. But, meeting Hades and entering his world will do more than burn up the pages of this book and have readers looking for something cold. Ryder finds out that she has been reincarnated and each time these two find her she will die a horrific and painful death. Just what is the reason for the curse has yet to be revealed? What is the curse? How does this intersect with her mother? Will it?

Each chapter has its own heading allowing readers to know what events will happen next. The one that begins with The River of Pain takes both Ryder and Ari down into Hades, through overcoming many obstacles, the river of pain, the river of wailing, punishment and places where those that were really evil or bad wind up, those that are neutral in Oblivion and those that are good find solace somewhere else as Ryder learns more about being a Nephilim and she explores her powers.

An ordinary teen transformed into a semi goddess. Flighty at times, trying to be loyal to one and yet finding it hard to resist the other as Ari shares his back story with readers as to how and why he met Ryder. Entering Hell, meeting Hades and the end result is quite compelling as Ryder comes face to face with a dream that would bring her farther from finding her mother, distance her from both Ari and Ollie plus put a strain on her friendship with Junior. Sometimes the only course of action is to stand-alone and finds your own way. Insecure, naïve in many ways and yet headstrong, she opts for Nephilim school, forges an acceptance letter and then finds out what happens when deceit and betrayals might mark her way to finding her true path.

An ending that will take your breath away and a young girl that is just starting to find her way. What is next for her as she starts school and meets new people? Will she find her mother? Which goddess is her mother? All of these questions and more will be answered in Book Two: A Curse Books Novel. Would you want to take a trip down below? Join Ari, Ollie and Ryder and you decide! This book gets Four and half stars.
