Writing Wednesday | Prompt 15

WOW. I can't believe we're already at prompt 15. We've done so much writing! I hope you're all sticking with me today. It's freezing out there and all I want to do is snuggle in bed but I'm at work so NOPE. It's writing time.

Ps. If you're ever looking to do more writing prompts I find a lot of mine at creativewritingprompts.com. I love that website so you should all check it out...

Prompt Fifteen: Strange Reporting
Use this plot to create a story- reporter arrives in town and starts asking questions. Just to be clear, it doesn't have to start with that sentence or anything. The main story should just have to surround that and have to do with it. Free reins on this one, length, voice, tense is all on you.

My Response...

I completely tune out from Jan, my roommate. She's beyond irritating at any hour, let alone this early hour of seven am. We have class at eight so I try to hurry and dress since I slept awfully last night. I keep having these crazy dreams about this boy whom I've never met. Everyone in the dream calls him Thesus and I thought that was funny since I've been writing my thesis for English. Shaking my head at my odd dreams, I throw on comfortable clothes and then wait on her, the slow poke, before we finally leave.

Mead Hall is only across the quad but in December, it's a pain in the butt. The wind bounds between buildings and chills me to the core. I look for reprieve as I walk and spot a dark hooded figure near the side of a building. At first I don't pay it any mind, I mean there are weirdos at this college that hide in the shadows but then something familiar makes me glance back. Only now, the shape is gone.

I brush it off as exhaustion and jog the rest of the way to my class. I mutter a quick, later, to Jan and then we split up. Thank God I don't share any classes with her or else I'd be in serious overdose mode. Instead of taking the stairs to the third floor I opt for the elevator. I'm just too damn tired to take all those steps.

Without looking at the kid behind me, I step in and quickly press the doors closed button. I hate being in the elevator with people. It completely freaks me out and it's only two floors up anyway. The kid can wait. As the doors are about to shut, a large hand blocks them and brings them open.

I stare in awe because it's the dude from my dreams. Thesus. I shake my head, averting my eyes downward so the guy doesn't notice me staring. I try to think back on last night, to figure out what the hell is wrong with me. Was I slipped something in my drink? Because I'm pretty sure I'm hallucinating.

The doors shut and I swear the nervous tension radiating off me is palpable. "Can you help me?" His raspy voice breaks the insufferable silence. I glance back and the man is just staring at me, pleading with his soft blue eyes.

"Excuse me?"

"Can you help me? They said to find you to be safe." He steps towards me and to counter it, I step back.

"Is this some sick joke? Who told you to say this?" What the hell is going on here? Why would I keep this kid safe? This has to be some sorority joke since I almost pledged and those girls hate me for dropping out. I now glare at the man for making me so embarrassed.

"My father, King of Athens, Aegeus told me to seek your family." I wait for his face to break and for the camera to come out but it doesn't. He just stands in the corner of the elevator, staring at me. His hand cradles his stomach and I peek over to see the problem. His grey shirt is stained red and he looks injured.

"What happened to you?" I ask before thinking it through. He actually looks hurt but surely that can't be part of the joke. This isn't right. Something is off here.

"I was stabbed. I need somewhere to heal. Can you take me?" He begs, his face paling as if he might faint.

"Let me see it." I demand so I know it's real. He opens his shirt and removes his arm from his stomach to show me a deep hole on the side of him. It's not gushing blood but the entire area is stained and red. Holy shit. This is real. "Why me?" I ask more to myself.

"I don't know. But I need help now." He says.

"I have to bring you to a hospital." I pull out my cell and am about to punch in 911 when he snatches the phone from my hand and crushes it under his heavy boot. "What was that for?" I yell out at him.

"You need to help me. I can't go to a hospital." His aqua eyes reach down into me and I have to give into this man. It doesn't help when he begs, "please." I nod knowing I have to at least help him clean up before I cut him loose. He's crazy but he's still hurt.

After exiting the elevator since it hasn't left the bottom floor, we run together back to my dorm. It's still early so there aren't many students up yet. Most opt for later classes. I get him into my room without anyone seeing us. "I'll be right back." I tell him and rush to the bathroom to get wet rags.

When I turn the corner to the community bath, that dark figure I saw before is standing right at the door. I slow down my pace so I don't look suspicious but the odd guy stops me anyway. "Hello Miss. Do you mind if I ask you a question?" I nod because what am I going to say? No? "I'm investigating a runaway patient. He is injured badly. I was hoping you've seen him somewhere."

I contemplate giving Thesus up but this dark figure rubs me the wrong way. He has black clothes on with hair to match. His eyes are such a deep brown at I almost can't tell the difference between the iris and the color. His teeth gleam almost unnaturally and Thesus' words ring through my mind, "you can keep me safe," I know then that I can't tell this man the truth.

"He's injured, you said?" The man nods. "No, I haven't seen anyone who's hurt. Maybe hungover," I joke, "but not hurt. I'm sorry I can't help."

"Are you sure? This man is very sick. You'd only be helping him."

"Nope. Sorry." I push past him to get in the bathroom. "You should probably get out of here, the RA won't like to know a strange reporter made their way into the female only dorms." I threaten him.

"Of course." He fakes a smile. "Just be careful which side you choose to aid. The heros aren't all they're cracked up to be..." He mumbles in leaving.

    1. I'm glad that you liked it, Nicky! I really got into it today. I'm sure there are some errors hidden in there. I love Greek Mythology so whenever I can bring it into a prompt, I do. :) You just made my day with your comment. Thank you!!
