Wednesday Writing Exercise | Arguments

Hey guys! It's been a long week thus far but I never miss our weekly Wednesday Writing post! Today I've got a few prompts that will make you tap into your argumentative side. These are all meant to make you pick a side and then defend and prove you're right. Here we go!

PS. There's some more prompts on this Website.

Prompt One- $5 versus Lottery Ticket
Which is better, getting five dollars or a lottery ticket? Why?

Try to write at least four to six sentences- a full paragraphs worth.

Prompt Two- Important Word
What is the most important word in the English language?

Pick a word and write a paragraph about why you chose that word and why it's definitely the best.

Prompt Three- Apple
An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Do you agree with this statement or disagree? Why do people say this? Does it have merit? Answer the questions in your answer with your reasoning why it's either true or false. Make sure it's at least one paragraph long.

Prompt Four- Cooks
Too many cooks spoil the broth.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why do people say this? What's the real meaning? Answer the questions in your answer with your reasoning as to why it's either true or false. At least one solid paragraph.

MY ANSWERS:

Prompt One-
I would much rather have a five dollars than a lottery ticket for one simple reason, less risk. The chances of winning the lottery or even a small amount from the lottery are so slim that the risk is not worth it. By taking five dollars you know you will gain five dollars versus gaining possibly nothing from the lottery ticket. I would much rather play it safe and gain money than risk it and gain nothing.

Prompt Two-
Initially I was thinking, I or yes were the most important words but I have a different one now. I think the most important word is, thanks. Firstly, thanks conveys many different emotions. You can show gratitude or relief. It also makes people like you more. Being polite and saying thanks helps you form relationships and positive interactions. Thanks is the most important because without it people won't know that you appreciate what they do.

Prompt Three-
I hate this saying and I refuse to use it. Although the actual statement is most definitely incorrect, the meaning  behind it is right. My interpretation is that foods like fruit makes you healthier-which is true! I think teaching children the saying is a tad misleading, though. Children should know that by just eating an apple they aren't exempt from the doctor. I've seem children interpret this saying incorrectly and it have negative effects.

Prompt Four-
I disagree with this statement. I think that having many people in on a specific idea or job is helpful. As long as the group is done in a constructive and respectful way, you will yield more ideas and people can work together. I hate working in groups and I am a perfectionist but from my classes, I've learned that by working in groups you get better results than by working alone.

So... those are my answers! Let's have an open discussion and send me yours! I love seeing what you guys write every week and can't wait for the arguments. Keep them coming! Until next week....
