Back to Square One

I have some huge crazy good news. I finished The Curse of Betrayal yesterday. I wrote the book during Camp NaNoWriMo and although it is nowhere near done I'm ecstatic. I wrote this novel differently than I did the first one-the main reason being the outline was set and I didn't have much leeway.

What changed?

My first book I was able to write just based of my stream of consciousness. What I thought I wrote and I didn't care plot holes or if the story went in different directions because it was the first book and all the others could follow.

This novel, I had to start at a certain point and end at a certain point since it's the middle child in the series. I faced some problems when I really wasn't feeling a scene but couldn't skip or change it. It was frustrating at times because I wanted to write and write and write like I did with the first one.

I had to change up my style, my pace and basically everything. Instead of writing on one document and splitting it up later, I wrote by scenes. I kept my writing short yet long enough to get my point across. The finished novel is around 55,000 words but my target word count is about 80,000-90,000 like my first book.

Where to now?

BACK TO SQUARE ONE. Chapter one, word one, sentence one and all of that. I have to go back in, read through, make the scenes cohesive and blend it all together. I also want to add in some fun scenes and character building parts.

I'm dreading doing this all over again but at the same time, I've learned a lot from my first mistakes. I've learned the best editing techniques, I have a great editor that I already know is a match for me. I really hope this is a breeze.

News update: Avery Hutchings, my designer and I sat down on Thursday to work on my cover and we've decided to go a completely different route for the books. She's drawing them instead of using pictures. To be honest, I'm tired of looking at books with a guy's abs or a beautiful girl. I want my book to stand out and our cover is definitely going to ROCK!

Day 22

Camp NaNoWriMo
Day 22 7/22

Last week didn't end as I had planned it. I wrote a ton last Tuesday but then sizzled out throughout the week. I'm only up to about 31,000 words. It was a major let down. I've noticed a pattern with myself though. I tend to write in big increments. I don't like writing towards the end of the week. Once I start, I hate being interrupted.

So what do these patterns mean?

Writing a lot in one sitting. This is both a good and a bad trait. One reason it's been bad for me is that if I don't have a couple hours, I won't bother trying to write a little. I know that once I get on a tangent or in my groove, little can stop me. My mind travels with it's thoughts and when I stop to take a break it breaks up the writing. It's good because my thoughts are together. Therefore my writing is cohesive and follows a line.

Beginning of the week writer. I haven't really found any evidence to why this happens to me but I can kind of figure it out in my head. I think in the beginning of the week I have so many good ideas and it's a new week so I want to start it off strong. As the week goes on, I get tired and bored and think I've done enough for the week. It's a lazy mans thought process but hey, it's me.

Interruptions. I'm super weird about interruptions. I don't mind some things but then other things really tick me off. For example, when I'm writing I don't mind having the tv on in the background. So I can write while my boyfriend watches tv. I hate when music is playing in the background. I hate when some people are around. This morning, I was writing in my living room and my grandma was in the kitchen making food, using a blender, opening doors etc. It was so annoying that I had to stop writing and wait for her to leave. Somethings really bother me!

What patterns have you noticed when you write?

Here I am in my Camp Tshirt I bought. I love it! Extra Karma babbbbbyyy :)

Hades Teaser

Hey guys! Sorry I'm posting so late. I didn't have work today so I took it easy and slept in- for like the first time ever! I'm really excited as the days get closer and closer to the book launch. Right now I'm setting up reviews, author interviews and other fun stuff for the release week.

If anyone runs a blog and would like to feature me, please email me! I want as much exposure that week as possible!

This weeks teaser is a good one and I haven't teased about this part of the book yet. This is towards the end of Ryder's journey when the pieces start falling in place. Enjoy!

I walk through the doors to the big room and am disappointed when it’s empty except for a small fire crackling in the fireplace. There is a long table in the middle. The floors are wooden and the walls are dark. There are candles against the walls that are dimmed down creating an eery atmosphere to the room.
“Who are you?” A voice booms out towards me. I glance around but I can’t see anything in the dimly lit room. I keep moving around the dining room searching for the voice.
“What do you want?” The same deep voice calls out again. The noise right behind my ear. I jump back in fear, searching for the owner of the voice.
“Get out!” The voice screams out making me bend down as it sounds as if it’s directly above me. I start to turn around and run when I collide straight into a body. I push off thinking it must be Ollie or Ari but it is neither. It is him. The man I have been looking for.
“Hades.” I whisper in disbelief.

Next week I should have the actual cover for you. My designer, Avery changed a lot and we came up with a crazy new concept! I'm obsessed to say the least. Talk to you all next week and have a fabulous weekend. If you're anywhere near where I live stay cool :)

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

I've got another award and this is my first Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I was given it by +Teagan Kearney from my first novel no working title yet. She blogs about her writing but adds her own touches to her posts. I love reading her blog and you should all check it out!

Where I get my inspiration?
I get my inspiration from many different places. I think firstly I get inspiration from what I see and the people around me. I have to admit, I'm a big people watcher and think it helps with creating realistic characters.

I also get inspiration from other books I read. I focus on how other authors write scenes and what works for them. I would never copy another author but I definitely take notice to what works.

From doing weekly writing prompts and exercises, I've practiced creative writing which helps a ton. I find that I delve into my imagination and new ideas keep popping up more and more. I love doing prompts, warm ups and even making up my own prompts. It gets the juices flowing.

How my blog inspires others?
The whole reason I started writing my blog was to help others who are in my situation start the writing process and finish it. I started with a half written book and hopes to rise above and get a published book. I've blogged about my ups and downs and I think I've accomplished what I came for.

I love helping people and teaching people my own lessons. I can only hope that I inspire others to write about what they love and give them confidence they need to do the same.

My nominations.....

Liebster Award #3

Hey guys! It's happening again! I've got another Liebster Award on my hands and this time it's from +Jenna Christopherson over at http://www.jcpublishing.net. Everyone go visit her and give her a shout. She's got a great site.
Here's the rules
1. List eleven random facts about yourself.
2. Nominate five bloggers for the Liebster Blog Award.
3. Notify the bloggers.
4. Ask eleven questions the bloggers must answer upon receiving the nomination.
5. Answer the eleven question you were asked.
6. Link back to the person who nominated you!

My Questions to Answer
1./ 2. Do you want to be rich and famous? Why?
I definitely don't want to be famous. I like my easy, quiet lifestyle and I think being famous would bring too much drama and too fast a pace of life. I like laying in bed and watching netflix- going to fancy restaurants, not so much. I don't know if I'd want to be rich but having a nice cushion would be welcomed right now.

3. What is the most important day of the week for you?
The most important day of the week is Monday probably because I get most of my stuff done. I hate Mondays because I do all my crap then but it's definitely the most productive. My favorite day is Sunday.

4. What is your favorite dessert?
For sure, pecan pie. I love that sweet stuff. I also love peach wave fro yo but that's more like dinner than dessert. :)

5. How long did it take you to feel good about writing?
Feel good as in confident? I think I just started being confident in my writing after I got some edits back from my editor. She started by saying how much she loved the book and my writing and she really gave me some great ego boosters that gave me confidence.

6. What is your favorite time of day?
Hmm. That's tough. I'm definitely a morning person but I hate waking up so I would say between nine and eleven in the morning.

7. Who do you depend upon?
I rely a ton on my boyfriend, Chris. He gives me a ton of strength and motivation during the day. And of course gives me a field trip when I need a break. Seriously though, without him I would have a tough time.

8. Has anyone ever let you down?
I think everyone has been let down at some point in their life. The important thing is how we deal with it. I've definitely learned by having my trust broken but it's only helped to shape the person I am today. Take the punches and move on.

9. Where on Earth do you think is closest to heaven?
I think home is your heaven and you can interpret that however you want, whether it be religiously or not. I love MY space at home. I love having a place I call home. It's safe, comfortable, serene and most importantly it's mine- my heaven.

10. What is the most valuable advice anyone ever gave you?
My dad always used to tell me to be the best me possible and that's all that matters. I really took that to heart because people should feel comfortable in their skin and be proud.

11. What is the most indulgent gift you ever received or given?
I have to admit, I'm a freaking awesome gift giver. A couple years ago, I gave Chris two tickets to a Miami Heat game versus the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. They were quite extravagant, near the court and I got to go with him. It was sick.

11 Random Facts About Me
1. I can snowboard.
2. I love owls and had a 'pet' owl in college aka he lived outside my dorm.
3. I DESPISE shopping at stores- online shopping all the way.
4. The first movie I ever saw was Lion King in theaters.

Day 15

Camp NaNoWriMo
Day 15 7/15

I have some extraordinary news! Last week I had this crazy spurt of knowledge and kicked the camps ass. I am officially on schedule to finishing my 50,000 words and I have momentum on my side.

I am now up to 23,870 words and I haven't even written yet today. I have to admit that it was more the part in my book that I've gotten into than me but still. I'm so proud of myself and happy to be getting far in the writing process. Hopefully I will finish the book in the 17 days left!

However, the members in my group have not been doing so well. There's this one girl who has been very active in the chat room and she's on schedule like me... everyone else has fallen behind. I think the key is the chatting because it makes you write.

I like talking on the chat because people give you inspiration. For example, I chose my cabin mates based on age and genre they're writing in. I did this mostly so we would have more in common and might be in similar boats. I definitely am happy I did this because it worked.

This girl who's been active like myself makes me want to write. For example, I explained that I was stuck on a scene and she talked me through it. We talked about where I want to go and she gave me an outsiders opinion. I ended up writing over 5,000 words that day.

The community aspect is the most important for so many different reasons. I truly believe that without my cabin and the chat box, I wouldn't be as far as I am. It's simple fact. I like someone motivating me to write and helping me along the way.

It's similar to a critique group just before you've even finished your manuscript. Anywayssss, I'm just procrastinating now when I really should be writing. I will check in with you all next week on my progress. New post tomorrow, about my next award I've been nominated for. Be on the lookout around 11:00 am :)

Liebster Award #2

I've been nominated again! Thanks to the lovely +Britney Compton at color me pretty run me beautiful! If you haven't checked out her blog yet, you should definitely get on it! Without further wait here's how it goes....

Here's the rules...
1. Link back to the blog that nominated you
2. Nominate 5 blogs with fewer than 200 followers
3. Answer the questions posted for you by your nominator
4. Share 11 random facts about yourself
5. Create 11 questions for your nominees
6. Contact your nominees and let them know that you nominated them

My 11 Questions to Answer
1. What is the most daring you have ever been?

The most daring I have been is probably right now as I'm getting ready to publish my book. It's a scary thing putting yourself out there and being vulnerable but it's rewarding at the same time. I've never been so scared. The second most daring thing is definitely going on roller coasters, I hate them but people made me do it! :(

2. If you were to change your given name, what name would you choose?
Ooh. That's a hard one. Honestly, I really love my name. However, my last name was changed when I was younger. I used to be Taylor Jane Lavatori but my parents changed it to be shorter to Lavati. But I like Taylor Jane.

3. What has been your happiest moment, to date?

Wow. I think my happiest moment was the day I graduated high school in 2009. I think more than just getting my diploma it opened the next chapter of my life- which I'm still in and loving it. I've changed a lot the past couple years and I've been the happiest of my life.

4.  What are your top three publications/book you like to read?

This is a little cheesy but I can read Twilight over and over again and never tire of it. However, the book holds meaning for me so I'll always have a soft spot for it. I can also read Jodi Picoult all the time. I love her writing style and voice. Lastly I would have to say some good Nicholas Sparks books.

5.  If you could switch places with a fairy-tale character, who would you switch with and why?

I would totally be a fairy. Specifically tinker bell. Can you say BAD. ASS.

6. What does the perfect meal contain?

Perfect meal would be a hamburger, curly fries-only the really curly ones and pecan pie for dessert with ice cream.

7. What is your favorite feature about yourself?

My favorite feature is my hair. I swear I die it, style it and beat it up but it always turns out so good. Just a few months ago I had it pink and loved it. Now, it's blondish again. I love my hair.

8. Who is your favorite president/leader and why?

I'm not a big history buff but I love Abe Lincoln. What he did for our country and how he was able to keep everything together was superb. Plus his speeches were insanely inspirational.

9. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I have too many thoughts in my head. I wanted a platform to talk through my writing, editing, publishing experience. I wanted to help other new authors who were going through similar struggles as me.

10. What do you look for/like about the blogs you follow?

I look for a professional blog with new ideas. I like someone who updates their posts regularly and really puts their all in it. You can tell when people care about their blog or they don't. I put so much time in mine so if I'm reading someone else's blog, I want to know they do too.

11. What is your biggest pet-peeve?

God, I have so many pet peeves to be honest. I hate when people talk over each other. Instead of just listening and then speaking your piece some people over power conversations or talk over another person and that infuriates me!

My 11 Random Facts
1. I'm a serious gamer on xbox... (gamer tag- e clippzz) hit me up peeps!
